We would begin by identifying your particular interest in seeking spiritual direction and prayerfully discern if spiritual direction is appropriate for your need. Some situations may require other kinds of assistance along with or instead of spiritual direction, depending upon your need or interest. Sometimes individuals are not a good fit for one another in the spiritual direction relationship. We will utilize a trial period of about three sessions, and then evaluate with one another if the relationship seems like it is working. Sessions are usually monthly, but may be more frequent, depending on the circumstances. More often is usually a good idea at the beginning to get on board with one another. A spiritual direction relationship involves a covenant to be in prayer for one another. Live sessions begin with a time of silence, and a time of preparatory prayer is requested before all appointments.
Due to consideration of distance, spiritual direction sessions may be conducted by phone. For those who are outside the U.S. where phone sessions would not be practical, we can utilize email.
All information is treated with utmost confidence unless otherwise required by law or court order. I occasionally make use of supervisory consultation, but no names are revealed in the process.
This is a ministry, and there is no charge, but it would be helpful to me if you would consider a donation. I simply ask you to pray about what you can do for a donation per session. You set the fee with no questions asked. I do not want finances to become a barrier to anyone who desires to deepen their relationship with God. If you would like more information, I would be pleased to discuss it with you.
Email me at Director@ConsultMin.com. Briefly describe what has prompted your search for spiritual direction at this time. Please do not include any confidential information. Provide a phone number where I may call you, and the best times you may be reached. In our first call I will need to ask some questions to orient myself to your situation.
This kind of ministry is certainly preferable in a face to face setting. In offering spiritual direction as an online or phone option, I am particularly aware of those who are in areas such as small towns where spiritual directors are not readily available. Even in larger cities traffic, travel times and distance are real issues with many people. Online and phone communication also makes this ministry available to missionaries, military personnel, business persons, or students overseas who do not have access to this kind of ministry.
Psychotherapy and pastoral counseling have to do with particular life issues or crises, and the focus of the counseling is on resolving those matters. Pastoral counselors have both theological and psychological training. They are more likely to be friendly to your faith and are more trained to work with faith concerns. Spiritual questions and faith convictions may be explored as they pertain to the life issue or crisis at hand and may be utilized to help resolve them. Although trained in pastoral counseling, I do not provide it, per se, in the context of spiritual direction.
The focus of spiritual direction is one's relationship with God. Regardless of the life context, one is challenged to discern God's presence and leading. A primary matter is always how one is relating to God in prayer.
